LAMINATED ORIGINAL 1915 PRESCRIPTION - OPIUM & BELLADONNA SUPPOSITORIES
This original handwritten prescription is for Mr. Boten, written on April 17, 1915 (4-17-15) by Isaiah W. Irvin, MD, of Auburn, Nebraska. Most of Dr. Irvin's prescriptions are signed "I.W. Irvin," but in this one, he wrote his first name out.
According to public records, Dr. Isaiah Whitsett "Doc" Irvin (April 1876 to June 1969) was a member of the American Medical Association for 60 years.
His prescriptions are uniquely appealing because of his beautiful, legible penmanship and his practice of writing them in black ink, as he did with this one, where it's easy to read that he prescribed Belladonna and Opium, along with coco butter, to make suppositories, with the instructions to "Use as directed."  This century-old prescription has been laminated to preserve and protect it from damage and deterioration.
The prescription is signed and dated on the back by the prescription druggist Clark L. Dort.
